Use, abuse of Essential oils, particularly Wormwood and Wintergreen

I LOVE EOs. I seriously do. However I am by nature a cautious user. I make sure my concoctions have the lower recommended amount of eos in them. And I'm willing to try most anything. HOWEVER, I am also aware that there are a lot of whackos out there that love MLMs such as Young Living. do Terra and Young Living are mlm companies. These companies are interested in their bottom line. They hand out erroneous information or no information. Many of these people are not educated at all in the use of essential oils. They're given a pamphlet or two and then are offered weekend courses. Maybe the sales folk take the course, maybe not. Yet they are off selling and using EO's on folk who don't know better. These people are not alone. People like me, I started out with a bottle, then another and yet another. Making up concoctions for my family, making mistakes including burning a tiny little girl once. I still shudder and cringe. It was horrible. and that was AFTER I had gotten some REAL education. Unlike most of the folk who got into this wonderful world of magic bottles, I actually went to college and got a diploma. I was able to learn from people who were before me. The opportunities now are greater than the used to be for education in the use and purpose of essential oils. Still, too many people don't take advantage of it. They buy books that contain mis-information, they listen to idiots like Gary Young who changes his story of his humble beginnings every five minutes and who hasn't had the education he claims and has been connected to the near death at his so Called Clinic in Utah (which is why he ran off to Ecuador) and they kiss his feet and bless his existence and call him a great teacher. But that's another rant for another time. My real purpose is to point out the huge lack of information out there. The ignorance and the stupidity that abounds. So what Kathleen? Who cares? What's your point? Here's my point. Knowing what kind of idiots out there and the magnitude of them, why would anyone sell them wintergreen and WORMWOOD??? Okay, I get that some folk are responsible and knowledgeable. I get some people use it for their magical rites... BUT. IF I were a purveyor of EOs the only way I could feel that I was covering my butt enough was to require some proof of knowledge of the purpose of the oils and the dangers that go hand in hand with them and who has the time or the resources for that? So why sell them? Especially when you know that the majority of Wintergreen is fake. Especially when you know that Wormwood is SO potent and is called a narcotic for good reason. Do these two oils really sell enough to make it worth the selling of them. And I'm not attacking any particular person or company. I know people who sell these oils that I respect profoundly. However I have to wonder if they're comfortable selling to people they know nothing who may be buying wintergreen to treat granny's arthritis and wormwood for her tummy aches. The thought of some YL nut case using them in Rain Drop therapy is absolutely TERRIFYING! Sigh. I realize that any oil has the potential for abuse and misuse, but these two in particular bother me thinking about them in the hands of the ignorant, the stupid and the deliberately stupid. End of rant. For now!

The NEW reinvention of GY... warning, this can and should make you nauseous!

Well folks, Gary Young is back at it again. Lying with the best of them. As a friend of mine said (paraphrased of course), this man shovels out so much bovine excrement he should run for President. GOP of course. Hopefully the dems would have the good sense and taste not to touch him with a ten foot pole! But it is politics, so they probably would.

The following link is a prime example of that BS. For those of you who are old hands at this game, please note the new beginning. No more miracle cures of his paralysis. Probably because that old horse has been disproved so many times. Please note. He's calling himself "Doctor" again. Of course there is a chance he managed to find someone stupid enough in South America to sell him one... I HIGHLY doubt he actually EARNED one.

Anywho, here is the link. Read with barf bags at hand. Look forward to your comments!

Aromatic Blends for Halloween

Tis All Hallows Eve! What's your aromatic brew?

In my cauldron I have, Bay rum, Clove and Sweet Orange. Truth be told, I love this any time of year, but for Halloween it's a lovely spicey blend. Later today I may be making Pumpkin muffins with raisons and some with chocolate chips. With Candles glowing in their black cat candle holders and their purple skull holders, jack o lanterns grinning, pop corn popping and Charlie Browns Halloween playing, despite any predicted down pour, we should have a great Halloween time!

Freaky Weather

And so the freaky weather continues. The weather this year, has been, to put it mildly, downright weird. From overly warm, to overly cool and from too much wet to not near wet enough, the weather doesn't know what the heck it's going to do.

Right now, in the Pacific Northwest, it's cooler than average and in parts of the east, it's milder than usual with the temperatures managing to get down to the 50's at night. Depending on which side you live on its either "It's ONLY October" or "It's OCTOBER for crying out loud!"

In the end one has to wonder, just how long is the weird weather going to continue and what does it have in store for us in the following year.

I do have a longer weather blog that I will write later with quotes and comments from other people, but as it's 1:30 in the morning, I figure this is enough for now.

virus-ick

I was going to use the first blog on either using Olive Oil as an emergency first aid kit, or one of my favorite subjects, the weather. At least this year's weather and just how screwy it's been for everyone, everywhere!.

Instead, let's talk flu, virus' etc. My eldest daughter has "somethin". Just what it is, I'm not sure other than it's some kind of virus. She's been coughing, running a fever and 6 days after that begins, she starts throwing up. I mean GIVE ME A BREAK.

There seems to be no name for this thing and the doctors and nurses are saying and have been saying since summer, that there are some nasty virus' running around right now. Even my 8 year old son caught a weird one and in a weird place, erysipelas in the face. He ended up on MAJOR antibiotics and in the hospital.

So. How to fight these nasties that are running around? How to protect yourself and family against this current set of health attacks. Does one use herbs or oils? Which herbs? What oils to use? Lavender? Lemon eucalyptus? Use them topically, orally (I'm talking herbs here) or inhale?

AND. Do these things really work against virus any better than allopathic drugs? In fact, should one even attempt to "cure" a virus or just to wade miserable through it?

One last note. Little Miss Sicky is 16, almost 17. The ONLY one of my children to have been fully and doubly immunized (2 mmr's etc.). It is not my imagination that is she the most sickly of the kids, thus, one has to wonder, "is there a correlation"? Opinions?

Until next time:
Stay safe, stay warm, stay well.
